  • Paying for a dog to inspect our apartment

When my fiancé and I moved to Stamford I started getting “hives” so I thought I was allergic to something. I suspected it could be bed bugs but my fiancé had no bites on him and after searching literally everything we owned and examining our mattress, we found nothing. We are very clean people with not a lot of clutter so we couldn’t imagine where they could possibly be hiding. I bought an allergy / eco mattress cover and hoped for the best. Every two weeks I kept getting hives that would last for 6-7 days. They were really big, perfectly round, red and really itchy. I went to the dermatologist multiple times. The first place I went to looked at me like I was crazy and said it was just a mosquito bite. I asked, “Are there mosquitos in late-October early November?” Again the hives came right on time, every two weeks in different areas. Always on the same side of my body and usually my arm, neck or leg. I didn’t wake up with them, They would appear in the afternoon or at night. We decided to seek out an exterminator to examine the apartment and found a place that would come and inspect for free before they decided whether or not we should pay for the dog inspection. The man was on his hands and knees with a magnifying glass and flashlight, searching everywhere. Under the bed, flipped the mattress over. Everything. He was incredibly thorough but did not find a thing. He told me to save my money because there was nothing here.

So, I was back to my allergy theory. I went to a different dermatologist who took a biopsy and said that it would determine whether it was a reaction from a bug bite, or from an allergy. The “results” came in that it was not from a big bite. I was relieved we didn’t pay for a bed bug inspection and was ready to figure out what I was allergic to. I had my blood tested, all negative. I had the patch test taped to my back for three days, nothing. I was told to just take Allegra every day because some people just get hives. This had all been going on for 5 months and now my wedding was rapidly approaching and I didn’t want to be walking down the aisle with red bumps on my arms and back. I finally went to a third dermatologist who right away said, “Those are bug bites, 100%.” It was also the same day we started noticing some on my fiancé. He was not having an allergic reaction like I was so they were harder to find on him, but they were there.

That’s when we decided once and for all we were paying for a dog to inspect our apartment. Karen from Quest was a pleasure to speak to on the phone and scheduled for Christie and Shauna to come over with their dog George. They did an incredible job inspecting the apartment and asking questions. We found a bed bug under the bed. Finally an end to this misery! I would tell anyone who has even the slightest suspicion as to having bed bugs… the dog is worth it and the people from Quest really care about your well-being.

    Thank you so much!

  • Excellent Service

This review is for the excellent service I received from Karen and the staff from Quest Pest. My family and I moved into our first home. After only a few weeks after moving in we started experiencing horrible bites all over our bodies and were scared that we had a bed bug problem somehow. Because we lived in a studio before we had essentially no furniture and the only new furniture we acquired was brand new pieces from La Z Boy. The brand new furniture from lazy boy was found to be positive for bed bugs thanks to George, their NESDCA certified dog. He proved without a doubt that it only came from the furniture as they were not anywhere in our house except for every La Z Boy piece. I spoke to quite a few companies none of them were as professional or knowledgeable or willing to take the time to speak to me and educate me on bed bug and treatment solutions as the staff did here. Many companies were ready to sell us packages off the bat to make money off us but Quest Pest is a company you can trust that wants to help you. There is a huge conflict of interest I found for extermination companies to be the ones who assess your problem and sell you the treatments because many were ready to jump to the products to sell instead of what was best for us. For example, though it would be more profitable to sell products which don’t fully work or services you do not need this company is one you can rely on that is honest and well recognized by their peers. Thank you for the great service to all the staff I will definitely recommend for anyone who thinks they may have pest issues.

  • Just Hire These Guys!

Charlie, & Co. are really fantastic. They did work well beyond what they were contracted to do and didn’t even consider charging us. They are everything 99.8% of service providers are not: punctual, responsive, friendly, knowledgeable, honest, and professional. I wish they would start a side business teaching electricians, plumbers, contractors, etc., how to treat people and run their businesses.

I hope we don’t have to use them again until we buy our next home (they also do pest inspections for homebuyers), but I wouldn’t even consider calling anyone else if we do.

I generally spend way too much time researching companies and agonizing over whom to call. Save yourself a bunch of time and don’t bother reading any other Angie’s List reviews; just hire these guys!
